Divide the store into decision zones
Map the sales floor, stockroom, office, cashwrap, receiving area, and storefront. In each zone, label fixtures to keep, return, relocate, remove, or review.
Remove business-critical material first
Take out merchandise, cash, keys, customer records, payment devices, and data-bearing electronics. Confirm how alarms, cameras, refrigeration, lighting, and connected displays will be handled before fixtures move.
Check the lease and property rules
A fixture attached to a wall, floor, ceiling, or utility may belong to the landlord or require restoration. Get written approval and identify who is responsible for disconnection and patching.
Plan reuse before the deadline
Freestanding shelving and displays may have reuse value, but acceptance depends on dimensions, condition, quantity, and timing. Contact the intended recipient before the turnover date; do not build the schedule around an assumed donation.
Bring this to the first conversation
| Record | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Item count and photographs | Defines the visible load without a volume guess. |
| Access route | Shows stairs, doors, elevators, docks, and carry distance. |
| Exceptions list | Separates connected, restricted, confidential, leased, or unknown material. |
| Deadline and approved window | Distinguishes the desired date from the property’s usable loading time. |
